Bighorn Mountains Region - Wildlife

Wyoming is home to more than 600 species of wildlife, including many that have vanished from other regions of the country.  The Bighorn Mountains region of Wyoming is populated by many of these species of wildlife.

Big game wildlife in the area includes Mule Deer, White-tail Deer, Elk, Moose, and Pronghorn Antelope. Black Bears, Mountain Lions and Coyotes also make their home in the Bighorn Mountains and Bighorn National Forest.  Birds include Wild Turkeys, Bald and Golden Eagles, Sage Grouse, Ruffed Grouse, Ring-Necked Pheasants, and several species of Falcon.

Many species of wildlife are visible from (and on) Wyoming's roads. Deer and other wildlife can also be frequently seen within many of Wyoming's cities and towns. Use care while driving, particularly at night.

Some wildlife, such as moose, are unpredicatable. Be careful not to get too close when viewing or photographing these animals.

If you are interested in hunting or fishing in Wyoming, see our Hunting & Fishing page for more information and links to useful hunting and fishing web sites.
